If you're an illustrator who stays active across various art forums and social platforms, then you've probably been approached by "comic-writers" dozens of times wanting to collaborate on projects to pitch to potential publishers. More often than not, these so called "opportunities" are nothing but empty promises and it's rare that the writers ever offer any compensation up front.

In rare cases, the collaboration can lead to success, ehm, The Walking Dead, ehm...but the bigger picture isn't quite as simple.
