New Illustration Update & The Spark is Back In Action!!!!

This is the new full page illustration for RIDES Magazine. This time the focus was on Tupac Shakur (as the Toyota MR-2) and R-Kelly (as the Nissan GT-R). This one was my personal favorite from the series and it was a blast to draw Tupac for two jobs in a row.

In other news, The Spark graphic novel is back in development.  The project was on hold for quite some time now. Between being super busy with the freelancing and not too satisfied with my first few pages of the comic, I decided to research old European and American comics a bit more, looking at my favorites Will Eisner, Georges Rem (Herge),Max Bunker and many others.

What you see below is the new, slightly different direction I am taking and the revision of the original page 2. The lines are a bit bolder and looser. Hopefully, I can have more updates soon, but let me know what you guys think of it so far.

Thanks for reading guys,

Food Network was then - this is now!

Working around 15-18 hours per day on average can be exhausting at times. The past 7+ months would have been impossible to handle if it hadn't been for the daily support of my lovely Ameenah.
Aside from always cheering me up and being my "go to" person for all things computer related, she used her incredible culinary skills to remedy the everyday struggle of meeting tight deadlines and oftentimes challenging projects.

This is a thank you for being there in my life and for letting me experience some of the most delicious and culturally diverse meals!

Everything made from scratch by Ameenah...and everything vegan!!! :)

And even all the bread is homemade from scratch. This particular example below was born (yes, born, I said it!  It's my baby!) about an hour ago! :P

Thanks for dropping by everyone,

The Rock in the Sun - Everything Can Change In An Instant

Hey guys,
Richmond,VA based filmmaker Lucas Krost and screen writer Kirk Kjeldsen are working on the film THE ROCK IN THE SUN, a film that will portray the incredible story of the people of Haiti:

About the Project (As posted on Kickstarter)

In January of last year, a massive earthquake in Haiti killed hundreds of thousands, injured hundreds of thousands more, and robbed at least a million Haitians of their homes, all during the time it took for us to shut down our computers and wonder what we should do for dinner.

When we tuned into the news that evening and every day for weeks afterwards, scenes of destruction illuminated the screens of our TVs and laptops. We used our phones to donate via text, punching in numbers to transmit pledges towards what we hoped was Haiti’s general direction. Through technology, we showed our concern and bonded together to support a country that needed help.
As important as our donations were, they left a comfortable degree of separation between ourselves and the terror and grief that was ravaging Port-au-Prince.

Now, one year later, most of us have moved on. It’s understandable. We have our own lives and our own little crises. Today on our TV screens, newscasters show us footage from recent shootings, congressional hearings, and Hollywood awards shows. But we don’t see the world behind the screen, where Haiti still struggles to emerge from the rubble, its progress painfully slowed by government inaction, abject poverty, and the efforts of those who exploit the earthquake’s crushing ruin for their own personal gain.

THE PROJECT
Over the course of this past year, filmmaker Lucas Krost has been haunted by images of the sick, injured, and homeless Haitians he’s seen during his travels. Armed with a powerful screenplay and backed by a talented cast and crew, Lucas travels to Haiti this spring to make a full-length feature film based on his own experiences. His movie, A Rock in the Sun, sets out to increase awareness of a country’s continuing desperation and to inspire support to raise the funds necessary to help individual Haitians begin to rebuild their homes.
SYNOPSIS
Kirk Kjeldsen’s screenplay tells the story of Nick Fanning, a successful Manhattan lawyer who reconnects with his Haitian childhood friend Jean Paul, whose mother, Yveline, had been Nick’s childhood nanny. Desperate to find Yveline after news of the earthquake, Jean Paul plunges into the thick of Haiti’s devastation with Nick in tow. Nick’s character’s development as he becomes more and more engaged with his surroundings suggests our own potential evolution from bystanders to active participants.
DISCLAIMER The $25,000 goal on this website will be combined with other financing and is not intended to be the entire budget of the film. Travel costs are not included as part of any reward. This is not an offer or solicitation for purposes of SEC regulations. Yeah, my lawyer made me write this. Can't live with em, but can't produce a film without em.

Project location: Port Au Prince, Haiti

Thanks for the support guys,
-Tin

Resident Evil Comic Page + Illustration Update

I finally got some time in between projects to enjoy some PS3 gaming. Resident Evil 5 was my most recent adventure and I absolutely love that game. I decided to do a 3-4 page comic based on the gameplay and the image above is the first of the set.

I also recently acquired the Wacom Intuos 4 tablet.  While it took me half a day to get used to the new, more textured and natural feeling of the surface, it's a huge improvement despite the quick tip wear. The drawing feels so much more natural and the texture truly feels like paper at times, especially after using the slicker surface of older models for so many years.

Below is a panel showing the inks using my new favorite custom chisel brush. It really feels like drawing with a marker. :) I highly recommend the new tablet if you do most of your work digitally.

I have also been illustrating these half page, three-panel comics for Boy's Life Magazine each month and here is an example of this long running series that will be out in the next issue.
